Bill Jones from, Forest Research, had asked if our big XAG P40 drone could be used to reseed the steep mountains that surround the Rest and be Thankful Road, north of Glasgow, Scotland. This stretch is plagued by landslides that regularly close the road. Bill’s goal was to replant the main slip sites with varieties of native birch trees to stabilise the slopes. We built a take-off and landing shelf on a mountain side, loaded the drone with birch seed, checked the spreading system and made our safety checks. Then we got flying. The P40 was able to reach the slip sites easily. As soon as the drone’s hopper is empty, it lands, and the ground team quickly swop the battery and refill it with seed.
